You can make it postmodern, like it's the scene in the middle of the story that makes no sense whatsoever yet somehow DEFINES the entire story if read correctly. Like, the crucial scene on page 45 is only explicable through the lens of Jensen's application of Jared's goth makeup. It could totally be done!

But that's the beauty of it--it doesn't have to *actually* make sense, you just have to say it does, and eventually someone will write a paper pointing out all the connections.

But I agree, it doesn't help with everyone who will be all WTF in the meantime. But you could deflect it by leaving off the final crucial scene, and then no one will notice the randomly inserted one in the middle.

Well, mostly I want my uterus to stop trying to self-destruct, but math problems would be maddening. I probably couldn't write it because I can't add. I'd attempt to write it and then some asshole would be like, THE CORRECTIONS THAT JARED MADE TO JENSEN'S MATH ARE WRONG, STUPID! JARED WAS A PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLAR! HE'D NEVER MAKE THAT MISTAKE!
