Dude, I deal with stupid people on a daily basis (I work for social security - believe me, I know stupid, and it ain't stupid is as stupid does goddamnyou forrest gump!)... you are not stupid. And anyone who says you are, shows they are not as intelligent as they claim.
Furthermore, if you have to point out to people that your intelligence is far superior to someone else's because of the crap literature that you read, then you have absolutely no fucking idea of what intelligence is.
And expecting someone not to defend themselves once they've been called stupid just shows their intelligence is far more lacking than they are making out. Generally, people who fear they are less intelligent than they want to be strive to prove their intelligence by belittling others. These are the pathetic ameobas of academia and should be shot on spec. Mind you, those who are considered highly intelligent to the point of genius generally have an inability to communicate on an everyday level and usually have a social-intelligence deficiency. I guess it's nature's trade off. Maybe there's only so many areas one can excel at.
Oh and I completely agree on the points above made regarding your abilities with grammar and punctuation, not to mention your fantastic story-telling ability. (and on that note, are you going to continue Repeat It (Until You Get It Right)? Cuz I adore that story)
