Marlon is upset that he is coming to the end of his novel, give him something to read

I was at the bookstore today, and I was just struck by the fact that it's a really shitty Barnes & Noble and didn't have the one thing I wanted, but also, that aside from that, I'm so out of the loop on books these days. I haven't read anything not connected to Generation Kill or my work all the way through since...early May. And then it was Cassandra Claire's novel. (Does not count)

Any recommendations? I'll take anything. Sci-fi, romance, YA, fiction, cooking, I don't know. I draw the line at L. Ron Hubbard.

Also, what's a suitable revenge for a roommate who perpetually forgets to flush even after you've told him, HEY DUDE, FLUSH THE GODDAMN TOILET. The plumbing is too new, so I can't flush while he's in the shower and get a satisfying reaction.

Yeah I know about Sarah Rees Brennan, it was on their display table actually. It's still in hardback though, so I decided to wait on it. Mostly because I'm still in college so I don't want to be lugging around ten bajillion hardbacks. Whenever Jasper Fforde comes out with a book I already can't help myself.

I'm excited for The Sparrow. But yes, hit me up with all you've got.

Well! Time Traveler's Wife was also amazing if you haven't read that already. And they're making a movie! Rachel McAdams is going to be in it!

Fantasy author I love that I always want other people to love: Sharon Shinn. Her Archangel series is fantastic. Archangel, Jovah's Angel, Alleluia Files, Angelseeker and Angelica, though the order may be off on the last two. She has several other books, my favorite of which is Summers at Castle Auburn, and a YA series, starting with Safe Keeper's Secret, Truth Teller's Tale, and Dream Maker's Magic.

If you haven't read The Blue Sword and The Hero and the Crown by Robin McKinley, that totally needs to happen. Those books are awesome. In fact, I have yet to read something by Robin McKinley that I haven't loved, so pretty much just read everything. My other favorites were Dragonhaven, Chalice, and Sunshine.

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Saffron Foer was my favorite book of last summer. It's about a kid who lost his dad on 9/11, and he goes on this hero's quest through NYC looking for the lock to fit a key he found among his dad's things. Really awesome book.

If you're into the gothic novel, The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield and Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro were both FANTASTIC. But the gothic novel is not for everyone.

Oh! And Tamora Pierce, for YA fic. I read Trickster's Choice and Trickster's Queen first, but at the time those were actually her most recent, and most of what she's written exists in the same universe. Sadly, I did NOT like the first series and never actually finished them. But the Trickster series, the Protector of the Small, and the Wild Magic quartets were all awesome.

I'm seconding the rec for the Naomi Novik books. I had the same problems with Lawrence that you did, honestly, but he mellows out A LOT in later books, mostly due to Temeraire's influence. Plus, Temeraire is kind of awesome as a character, and definitely got me through a lot of the drier patches of Lawrence.

Hahaha, and when you're done with THOSE, let me know. :D

You and I clearly have the same taste, because I've read like all of these. I think the only book by Robin McKinley that I didn't enjoy was Sunshine. It just seemed to DRAGGGGGGGGG. I'll look into Diane Setterfield and Sharon Shinn since those are the new things on this list for me. And I will. We should probably have a conversation so that I can be like, I've read this, but I haven't read that.

Hahaha! That sounds a lot more useful. Also, if you just want to look through everything I can ever remember reading, I have a goodreads (http://www.goodreads.com/user/show/281499-merrin) account.
