I figured I'd start off by talking about the election. This is now the third election I've participated in. The first, Kerry Edwards 2004, I devoted roughly 30 hours a week to the cause, and was arguably the least effective. I was sixteen, couldn't vote, and lived in the state of California where it hardly mattered. Two weeks after the election, and many many tears shed, my friend gave me the armband Vote Blue 11/4/2008.

In the 2006 midterm elections, I went traipsing all over Connecticut for Joe Courtney--to take back the house and the senate--but voted absentee and once again didn't matter. But the only disappointment of that election was Joe Lieberman.

Last February, I decided enough was enough, and reregistered in Connecticut to vote for Obama in the primary. When Proposition 8 hit the ballot, my stomach dropped. And then the Connecticut Supreme Court legalized gay marriage, and the fundamentalist Christian right formulated Question 1 to ammend the Constitution and take that right away again. And I was glad to be voting in Connecticut again to ensure that Question 1 didn't pass.

I don't care what your politics are. I don't want you to go out and vote if you're going to vote for the McCain Palin ticket. I think that shows a devastatingly tenuous grasp on reality as well as a complete lack of goodwill towards mankind.

Morrissey wrote a song called "America is not the world" and while this is true, we, more than any other nation, have the power to set the tone of global politics. And we have some serious questions to ask ourselves--is the extreme gap between rich and poor acceptable? Should we still be debating evolution and abortion as a secularist government? Why do we continue to deprive our young of sex education when there is a clear link between STI transmission and unwanted pregnancy in states with abstinence only?

Chances are, by today, you've made up your mind.

You speak my language, bb.

I kept quiet most of this election, but today, if you vote McCain Palin, I don't think I want you as a friend. So, I'm glad that you're not jumping on me, and telling me how politically incorrect I am.

*high fives*

I know folks are being all politically correct and saying it doesn't matter who you vote for, just to vote. GAH. I cannot disagree with that more. I mean it does matter who you vote for. So if folks are telling you that you're politically incorrect b/c you're telling McCain voters not to vote, I find that hilarious. You know I'm tired and I've seen too much. The impact that US policy has had here and around the world under right-wing war-mongering leadership has been devastating, deadly, and horrific. That's not something to be politically correct about, lol. So yeah, high five baby. :D

I don't know if I agree with not wanting McCain-Palin people to vote, because they sure as fuck don't want us voting either. it's tricky. I'm just hoping that America does something right, this time. and by right, I mean left. har har har har har

Yes, well, as you say, we're left, and they're just wrong. SO, I feel no need for them. I no longer care if I infringe upon their right to an opinion, they've been infringing on my civil liberties for the last 8 years.

YUP! I think that America can be trusted to vote the right way, but not as the electoral college currently stands.

we, more than any other nation, have the power to set the tone of global politics. ABSOLUTELY. I am Mexican, and I can tell you that my whole country, my family, friends and myself have been following this election since the primaries. And god, I've been SO so scared all these months of McCain/Palin taking office. Because, yes - the US is one of the most important nations of the world, always under the scope, always, always setting the tone one way or another. And, if Obama wins - I'll be able to look at my northern neighbour with pride, rather than horror at its president, and his policies.

Dude, are you living in Connecticut now? I only ask because I'm in Connecticut and I've been ranting about Question 1 and I didn't know anyone else on LJ in the SPN/J2 fandom from CT and I felt kinda lonely.

I go to school here. It is lonely. Everybody won't shut up about California!

LOL Yeah! I've been ranting over on my LJ! It sucks for me, especially, since my family all voted McCain/Palin except for my husband, so I'm very much the black sheep!

That's one thing I miss about college, having all of my professors to talk to! I was a History major so I had lots of great professors with really diverse backgrounds and this would've been an amazing time for me to still have been in college.

My Mom likes to say that I was "brainwashed" by the liberal media and my professors, pretty ironic considering the fact that she used to be liberal, before Menopause made her INSANE.
